The schedule and principles for students newly enrolled in departments offering compulsory German preparatory education at Fırat University, as well as those enrolled in these classes who have not successfully completed the preparatory education, are outlined below:
German Preparatory Class Proficiency Exam
The Proficiency Exam for compulsory German preparatory class students will be held in two sessions on Monday, September 14, 2026, and Tuesday, September 15, 2026.
The first session, called the General Skills Exam, will assess grammar, vocabulary, listening skills, reading skills, and writing skills. The second session, called the Oral Exam, will assess speaking skills.
Students scoring 60 or higher on the General Skills Exam will be eligible to take the Oral Exam.
The Proficiency Exam passing score is calculated as follows: The final score will be calculated by taking 75% of the General Skills Exam result and 25% of the Oral Exam result. Students who achieve a total score of 70 or higher in both sessions will be considered successful.
The time and location of the sessions will be announced later.
Exemption from Compulsory German Preparatory Education
Students who meet the following conditions are exempt from the Proficiency Exam and the compulsory preparatory class:
a) Students who have successfully completed a compulsory foreign language preparatory class at a higher education institution within the last three years and whose equivalency has been approved by the Foreign Language School Board of Directors,
b) Students who have completed their education in a secondary school attended by citizens of a country where the designated foreign language is spoken as a native language, within the last three years,
c) Students who have obtained at least 85 (eighty-five) points in central foreign language exams accepted by the Council of Higher Education within the last three years, or who possess an equivalent international foreign language score accepted by the Council of Higher Education.
Students who meet the exemption requirements mentioned above must submit their relevant exemption documents to the Directorate of the School of Foreign Languages no later than 3 (three) days before the Proficiency Exam date.
Orientation Program
Students who pass the Proficiency Exam or meet the exemption requirements will be eligible to transfer to their respective departments and register for courses in the relevant semester.
Students who do not pass the Proficiency Exam (excluding those who have completed their maximum study period) will be placed in preparatory classes, and their course schedules will be announced.
An orientation program will be held for preparatory class students on Monday, September 21, 2026.
The time and location of the program will be announced later.
